Welcome to the Preachers' Page

This page is for people who preach or are preparing to preach at Stechford Baptist Church. It's not directly accessible from the rest of the site. If you've stumbled onto it by accident, you are welcome to look around, but this is not a jargon-free zone.

Please contact Edna Wright on 0121 247 1955 if you have any queries on the services (but not for queries about the website).

If you're preparing to speak at Stechford Baptist, you might want to listen to some of the last weeks' messages. You can find us on iTunes, or you can paste this link into your PodCast Software:

Morning Service

The morning service begins at 10:00 am and needs to finish at 11:00 am promptly. It's followed by coffee, and the Sunday School begins at 11:30 am.

We usually ask the preacher to lead the whole service, but if you would prefer to just speak and have someone else lead the worship, this can be arranged.

In the morning service we are looking for:
• A life-changing hour of meeting with God
• All of the congregation involved
• A powerful and relevant message from the Bible
Typically, the pattern of our service is:
• Opening hymn or song
• Short prayer and Welcome
• Notices and offering
• Lively worship with the music group
• Open Prayer and worship
• Sermon
• [Communion on the third Sunday of the month]
• Closing song or hymn

Practical details:

We now use a data projector alongside the Baptist Hymnal (1962) and our Songs of the Spirit. You can download a complete list of our songs here, or request new songs. We are also writing new songs, and if you would like a new song written on a particular theme, we would be happy to do this – again, given enough notice.

We want to encourage preachers to use visual aids. Many preachers now use PowerPoint, but we have also used science experiments, illusions, video clips and even sword fencing.

We have talented musicians, singers and actors in the church. Let us know if you would like a special song or a sketch, and on what theme.

There will be children in for the beginning of the service. Teenagers stay for the entire service.

Evening Service

The evening service begins at 6.30 pm and ends at 7.30 pm, although it's alright to overrun a little.

Our current evening series is "What would Jesus say to…" based on the book of Ecclesiastes. You can look at www.whatwould.org for the promotional website. It's aimed at non-Christians, new Christians, people who aren't so sure, and people who once had a faith. Click here to look at why we are using Ecclesiastes for an evangelistic series.

In the evening service we are looking for:
• A youth-friendly, relevant session that opens doors to God’s kingdom
• Creative arts and loud, lively worship supporting the message
• An engaging, practical and contemporary message from the Bible
Our ministry team will organise the first part of the service, which will feature worship and a creative item based on the theme. Please contact us if you want particular songs or a particular creative item.
We would like you to focus on the message, which should last about half an hour. On the first Sunday in the month, we have Communion at the end of the service, and we would like to invite you to lead this. The music group will provide closing music.
If you are available, we would like to invite you to stay for a short question and answer session with the young people afterwards.
