Loving others
Jesus said that the mark of His disciples would be loving others. In
modern English, we use the word “love” for all kinds of
things — the love of a parent for a child, the love of friends,
romantic love, even loving chocolate! The New Testament actually had
different words for different kinds of “love”. There was
friendship love, there was romantic love, and there was a new word
which the first Christians really invented for God’s love. This
love is not an emotion or a liking. It is love which chooses to value
something or someone very highly — often more highly than they
deserve. This is the love that Christ had for us, and the love which
we should have for each other.
